Welcome to the official website of the Susanville Bluegrass Festival! This event, our first year of existence, Will be held from Tuesday, June 22nd through Sunday, June 27th, 2010. The actual music will be starting on Friday morning, the 25th, and will run through Sunday afternoon, the 27th. The festival will be held at the Lassen County Fairground in Susanville, California. The fairground is located at the East end of the city and is accessed through the main entrance on Fairgrounds Rd. This wonderful facility features over 75 RV camping sites with electric and water hook-ups, marvelously shaded main stage seating, bathrooms with showers, easy access to town and shopping and a whole lot more. For those who want to camp with either RV's or tents, you will be able to access the fairground at 12 noon on Tuesday the 22nd. This event will feature three days of bluegrass music, a large craft fair, a car show, a square dance and an indoor, air-conditioned room for the quilters with music from the stage piped in so the quilters don't miss anything. In addition to the bands, Lance Brown will be featured as Will Rogers. Lance is the premier Will Rogers impersonator in the country today. There will also be a children's program each day (Friday - Sunday) and workshops will be held during the lunch and dinner breaks.

I realize that in these tough times money can be an issue when choosing where you spend your vacation time. That being the case, I am going to keep the cost of attending this event down to a bare minimum for you and your family. Three day advanced sale tickets for adults will be $30, and will be available at the gate for $45. A three day advanced sale teen ticket will be $10 and will be available at the gate for $20. Children 12 and under will be free with a paid adult. Camping will be $10 for each night you stay...be it RV or tent. So, a family with two adults and two teenagers could purchase advanced sale tickets, attend the festival and camp for five nights for a total of $130. That's a pretty good deal.

What about pets? Pets are welcome at this event! The rules on pets are quite simple, really. Keep control of your animal. When you have them out either keep them on a leash while walking, or keep them restrained while at your campsite. Clean up any messes your pet makes. No pets in the audience area. If you can not maintain control of your animal the situation will be dealt with then. I have faith that pet owners are, by and large, responsible individuals and I am willing to give them every opportunity to prove me right. Many people who travel by RV full time have dogs or cats, others simply like to bring them along. I can see no logical reason to exclude those animals which, in turn, could quite possibly exclude their owners.

So, what about the sound, you may be asking yourself: will it be any good? Since the sound for this event will be provided by John Senior  I can say, without question, that the sound will be excellent! John Senior Sound has become one of the top rated sound companies on the West Coast. He has provided the sound work for a great number of events and is in high demand throughout the year.

Introducing: The Official Susanville Bluegrass Festival Tee-Shirt Design!

When the festival was born, one of the first things I knew we would need was a good design for the tee-shirt. I went to the art department at Lassen High School and spoke with the teacher, David Haslet, and presented the idea of having his students submit designs. A contest was developed and the students turned in some very nice drawings for consideration. I am very happy to announce that the winning design was submitted by Christyn Jefferies (above). It was a nice design that brought together the simple mountain life of the Susanville area with the overall concept of cabins and bluegrass music. When asked about herself, Christyn Jeffries said, "I started drawing when I was old enough to write my name.  I drew horses most of the time, and gathered "how to draw" books wherever I could.  Since I love to draw, I jumped at the chance to join Mr. Haslet's Art class once I entered high school.  He presented us with the challenge of designing the flyer for the Bluegrass festival.  I haven't heard much Bluegrass in my life, but after some research I put together a drawing I had hoped would represent the style."

Thank you Christyn! Please click on this link to see Christyn's design, and our first ever Susanville Bluegrass Festival tee-shirt:
